Free Ftp Server

Hi all,

I am trying to measure my upload speed and what I found was to use lftp, but I need a ftp server which gives me a username and password which I can use in command line fro lftp. Do you know any free ftp server?

Any help is highly appreciated.

If you mean a free, online FTP service, there are some you can find on Google. If you mean you want to set one up on your server, you can do proftp or vsftp. If you want to measure your network speed, there are LOTS of easily found network speed tests, like this one:
http://www.speedtest.net/

Measures both upload and download speed.

I tried to google them, but I could not find anything free.
And also I would like to have something like a script which I can repeat the experiment and analyze data.

I found over 7 million hits for "free online ftp server", and many links on that first page were free. Try again.

Ok, and putting "linux speed test script" into Google also pulls up alot, like this:
http://tech.ivkin.net/wiki/Run_Speed...m_command_line

..which lets you run speed tests from speedtest.net from the command line.

Thanks for your answer, before posting here I have searched a lot, there are lots of free ftp server, whose maximum file size is less than 256M, if I want to be precise for measuring upload speed, I should upload larger files. Also they have speed limit for free users which makes my measurements inaccurate. The upload limit for free users is less than my network speed, so I cannot use the, This is why I have posted here.

256MB is more than enough to test network speeds

Ok, so again you have choices:
  • Keep looking for a free one (again, over 7 MILLION hits...I don't think you've explored/tried them all)
  • Since this is for your business, PAY for what you need, and either open an account on an existing FTP server, or pay for a hosted server and run whatever you'd like.
  • Use the script that I already linked you to in my last reply, which uses speedtest.net.
Just restating what you want without trying anything is pointless. Yes, we know what you WANT; now you actually have to pick something, and move in that direction. And you've essentially asked this same question before, and were given answers...did you try those answers???
