Question Forcing a 10/100 Ethernet card to 10Mbit

I've got 2 pc's connected with a crossed cable, but i can't go up to 100Mbit. I have to manually set the speed, because if i let the card chose the speed it chooses 100Mbit and it won't work.
Now, to bring up my eth0 interface i'd do:
ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 up

This starts the ethcard in auto mode and i can't use it. How do i force the max data rate to 10Mbit full duplex?
