Forcedeth v19 on 2.6.22: No luck, need help

I'm having major problems getting forcedeth to work at all. I have a D-Link NIC (based on VIA Rhine) and my nforce2's onboard NIC. I've patched my 2.6.22 source with v19 of forcedeth and selected it in xconfig. I've tried running it alongside my D-Link NIC with it's own entry in /etc/network/interfaces, as well as removing my D-Link and using the D-Link's entry in interfaces. The latter action produced the unreachable network error when I tried to ping my router.

Is there something undocumented that forcedeth needs? My D-Link NIC works fine with what I've got, I figured I'd just have to select the forcedeth driver and I'd be away.

Oh yeah, I'm using Debian unstable's make-kpkg as per the instructions here.
