Forcedeth probs in 2.6.5

Can anybody help with a really stupid question.

I have just upgraded my kernel on Slackware to 2.6.5 all is running well except my nforce2 ethernet will not bring up a page on a browser.

I have compiled the forcedeth module into the kernel so it should all be working.? any ideas.. I am on a home network behind a D-Link router but this should not and has never caused any probs..

please help..
