Fixed IP -> troubles in Fedora 6 _x64

Hello everybody,

I'm new here but not completely new on linux.

I'm experiencing a strange problem. Whenever I set a fixed IP on my Fedora 6 machine and I bring the interface up (ifup ETH0) , then the PC seems like slowing down and for example Midnight Commandor doesn't start anymore. My Asterisk which is running on this machine is going very slow and takes a minute to reload the configuration.

Any suggestions I can look for. When I bring the interface down again -> no problem.

I has nothing to do with the connection because I can disconnect the cable and still have the same problem...

Any suggestions ?

Much appreciated

Tom

The first thing I would suggest is using the top command to see if something (and if so, what) is chewing up your CPU time. top is used from the command line. There may be a corresponding GUI tool, but I don't know what it is. (It used to be gtop, but I think that is obsolete now.)
