Firmware not installed?

I'm re-building a laptop my daughter left here. Replaced the hard drive and installed Ubuntu 10.10 rather than go back to M/S products. Now that I have the installation completed, I find that I really love it. The one issue is the inability to connect to our household network.

When I check for wireless networks I see that "firmware not installed".

OK, where do I go now?

I would recommend to connect it to your network with a cable and use the hardware installer to install the needed packages. After that you should be able to use the wireless.
If that doesn't work, please open a terminal and post the output of the commands
Code:
lsusb
lspci
so that we can see which network chip your laptop uses.
