i use suse 9.1 and on another machine i use windows xp. when i shut my linux firewall down, from linux i can use the shared map on the xp machine but not vice versa. when my firewall is on there's no network at all. i tried different variations on configuring the firewall, but the network stays down.
can someone help me with configuring it, so that the network is fully working, linux to windows and the other way round?
I don't think I totally understand your question, but I'll try to work through your post.
when i shut my linux firewall down, from linux i can use the shared map on the xp machine but not vice versa.
So when you take the firewall down, your accessing a samba share(shared map) through Windows XP. This would make sense, without a firewall you should be able to access any services running.
when my firewall is on there's no network at all. This is likely a ruleset that is prohibiting network traffic
thanks for your answer. my english isn't always what it should be
so when i shut the linux firewall down, i can access the network from linux to windows. but not windows -> linux.
what i want to happen is when i adjust the linux firewall, i have network linux -> windows and windows -> linux.
that would be great.
