Firewall Check

Hey, I'm setting up an FTP server on my home network. Im fooling around with security and i am trying to get a decent firewall going. If everyhting works out well, i may think about putting my server on the internet for my friends and i. Ive been lookign around for help with iptables, and i found a few howtos, but they are very confusing. Ive used iptables before, but only with premade scripts ive found. If you know nay good base Iptables file i can use as a guide, that would be great.

Heres what i would like my firewall to do:

I want ftp and ssh to be useable on my network only. 192.168.1.0/24
I want Mail to be used my localhost and no other computer, in case i want to learn about making a mail server, or just using mail.
I dont want to forward anything, not that i could being as that i only have one ethernet card
And i only want to allow things that i have asked for to come through (read about this in one of my last scripts)

If anyone can help me find a place to get all this info, that would be great. Ive also heard about disalowing fragments from a howto, would that be a good idea? Thanks in advance,

Petes

I would use a program like shorewall or something to set up the iptables rules. Its a lot easier.
