firewall blocking internet

This is probably a simple question to answer for many of you. We have a PC running Fedora Core 1 and has a software firewall installed at our university. We can access anything on the university web server, but requests for other web pages are blocked. How can we set up the firewall to allow access to the Internet?

from what you said the firewall might not be your problem.

did you try to ping a server outside of the university network? (e.g. $ping www.google.com)
post the result.
