Firewall/Bandwidth Manager

Hello Everyone,

I have been trying to setup a reliable bandwidth manager for a network that I am maintaining. On average we have around 500 Users, located across different buildings. And I want to deploy an opensource/free solution for monitoring the network and bandwidth management. I like iptables, but it is sort of complicated, and after several days of working with it, i failed to get a result. Can anyone suggest a solution? the software should be able to divide/prioritize the available bandwidth among services.

thanks,

Shorewall provides a good package with some nice abstraction and grouping mechanisms.

It's still going to be 'complicated' and you'll still want to have a decent grasp of the underlying iptables concepts though.
