I would like to know the command to check the NIC interfaces available in redhat linux.I know ifconfig works, but is there any specific command shows the the interface which in disabled mode too .
Basically in Solaris if u run this \etc\path_to_inst | grep network , it shows even the unused /un configured NIC card in the system. In Linux where can i get these info..Please help me ..Thanks a ton

Appreciate your help.

/lib/modules/2*/kernel/drivers is where all available network drivers are.

I don't know the output of the Solaris command you reference.
But will any of these Linux commands get you what you want ?

Code:
dmesg |grep -i eth

ethtool eth0

mii-tool eth0
Of course with ethtool and mii-tool you'll still have to specify each interface individually.

Hi,
I'm a bit confused by what you mean with 'disabled'. 'ifconfig -a' will show all interfaces that the kernel knows about (make sure you run as root or sudo). Do you mean all physical interfaces? Even those for which the kernel driver module isn't loaded? In that case, maybe 'lspci | grep -i ether' is what you're looking for.
Could you clarify your question please

Basically I am looking all the network interfaces are available in the system .Let say in my system i have 2 NICs and only one is configured.in Solaris it shows only one NIC if I run ifconfig -a .If I need to see both the NICs I need to check path_install file. There it shows 2 Nics are in the system.Hope this information helps. In linux , how do I see all the NICs in the server,

ifconfig without any arguments should show all ethernet interfaces; even those that aren't up. (ie are not assigned an IP)
