fetchmail + KMail. oh and spamassassin
and procmail. And finally GKrellM!!
Wow this list is long. But it reminds me why I have chosen to migrate to linux, and what a good job I have done! I love these little tools! If only I could make them interoperate.
Here's what I did. After long long searches, I have found the most efficient mail handling mechanism!
I have downloaded and installed fetchmail. Set it up correctly (it was so easy!) to download mails. I have tested it numerous times and it can download new messages from my POP3 mail server to /var/spool/mail/username. Then I have configured procmail by creating the ~/.procmailrc file. New messages are downloaded and sent to ~/Mail/inbox. However this is not the end, but just the beginning of their journey.
My ultimate goal is to use KMail as my primary mail program. I would like to use Mutt, but I receive a lot of graphic mails, so I better stick with that one. KMail separates inbox into "cur", "tmp" and "new". When procmail sends them to inbox, kmail doesn't display them. I made it send the mails to "inbox/new". Yet with these settings, my mailwatcher tab on GKrellM cannot display the new mails!!
What should I do? How do I make GKrellM check that folder? What kind of folder is that anyway? An mbox??
I still have to activate spamassassin, and create procmail rules to disperse the mails in to subsequent folders!!!
I just love Linux!!
Thanks for your help!
