fedora core 8

To whom it may concern,

I just installed fedora core 8 on my laptop and want my wireless internet back. The protection on my router is wep 128 bits and I would like to know how to manually put everything through the terminal everything including the ip address which should not be needed because my connection is dhcp, the gateway address, the subnet mask and everything else. I believe the wireless card on the laptop is identified as lo or eth0 and would like to alter those for the wireless internet through the terminal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

*All this is written assuming you made an upgrade and not a fresh install*

This usually happens after an kernel upgrade. What you have to do is copy ipw3945.ko to
/lib/modules/'uname -r'/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/

Where to get the .ko?
Download ipw3945-1.2*.tgz from http://ipw3945.sf.net
hit the make command

To configure your WEP connection type in system-config-network and then select your wireless interface and configure it.
Generally the wifi interface is the eth1 and not the eth0 (ethernet - lan) or l0 (loopback)
