Fedora Core 3 and xhost

Aloha everyone,
I have two computers running both Windows and FC3. I was interested in networking the computers in Linux then running programs from one computer on the other. We used to do that at work using SUN computers on Solaris, so I'm somewhat used to the syntax. That's where I ran into a problem. Here is the output from the terminal window:

[whjones@ActLinux ~]$ xhost + 192.168.0.102
192.168.0.102 being added to access control list
[whjones@ActLinux ~]$ telnet 192.168.0.102
Trying 192.168.0.102...
Connected to ThinkLinux.laptop (192.168.0.102).
Escape character is '^]'.
Fedora Core release 3 (Heidelberg)
Kernel 2.6.9-1.667 on an i686

[whjones@ThinkLinux ~]$ setenv DISPLAY 192.168.0.101:0.0
-bash: setenv: command not found

I look up the command 'xhost' and the suggestion was to use 'export' for some shells, but that resulted in:

[whjones@ThinkLinux ~]$ export DISPLAY 192.168.0.101:0.0
-bash: export: `192.168.0.101:0.0': not a valid identifier

Can anyone provide any assistance with this? You assistance will be greatly appreciated. I'm obviously attempting to display programs on 192.168.0.101 which are actually running on 192.168.0.102, but don't know the syntax to use for FC3. Please point me in the right direction (URL, etc...)

Thanks in advance,

William Jones

Try using:
export DISPLAY="192.168.0.101:0.0"

For security I would reccomend using ssh instead of telnet - you can also save running your export commands etc by using X windows over ssh:

Thanks! That's exactly what I was attempting to do. Now that I've gotten ssh to work, I'll implement the forwarding of X11 from one computer to the other.
