Fedora Core 2 Samba Problems

I have a share on a windows box that has all my mp3 and multimedia files on it. When I try to mount it using: sudo smbmount //BeaverCreek/SharedDocs /mnt/music I get connected to the share but whenever I go to /mnt/music and try to ls or change directories it just locks up my computer and I have no access to the files. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes yes yes, I have this exact same problem, it's so weird. I have installed from these cds a million times, and I made them months ago, and I just recently started getting this problem. I figured my cds were bunged up. There must be some sort of samba/smbmount/mount incongruence. One thing I did was I changed my kernel, upgraded, rather, and I got one good mounting. After that it was back to the old problem. I have no idea why, I'm sorry, but here's my story to help you with yours. My suggestion is to manually download the newest versions of mount and samba, and to try stripping out options that may be confusing it, in case the incongruence is with something like, rw, or maybe fmask or dmask. Dunno. Good luck.

I've already tried reinstalling everything and it still doesn't work. This is a very irritating problem because I had all this stuff working under windows and for some reason SAMBA just won't work for me.

Ok, I've done somre more research on this and it seems like samba has problems with large directories. Its true that the directory I want to share is 15GBs big but why wouldn't that work if it will share just fine in windows? I'm very frustrated by this problem because I know its something that will work just fine in windows. Might it help to have this share on a linux computer? Not sure what else I could do...
