fedora 4 and direct internet connection

hello

i recently loaded up the 64 bit of Fedora 4 on my machine...installed grub as the bootloader as well...i dual boot either fedora or win xp pro64

i cannot get interent connectivity when i'm using fedora...in win xp its been fine

a direct cable from my cable modem to my NIC is not working in fedora..it says it cannot resolve the IP address

i hook up a D-Link router and i can connect...though fedora resolves the routers IP (192.168.0.1), but still no interent connectivity

so what do i do ???
