fedora 3 vnc performance

I have 2 computers at home networked together with a router connected to cable internet. On has Win XP Home and the other Fedora Core 3. I have UltraVNC installed on the xp box and I use the built in vnc that comes with fedora. When I access these systems from work, I notice that the fedora box has horrible performance while the xp box has good performance. I'm not sure where to begin to diagnose the problem. The xp box is using port 5910 and the fedora box is using 5900. I have a D-Link DI-514 router/access point. Both computers are hard wired to the router. I don't really know where to begin to diagnose the problem. The extent of my troubleshooting was to turn off my firewall. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Look at the settings used by each of those vnc servers. There are several compression algorithms for VNC. May be FC machine is using one of the worst!

Thanks,

Thanks Sarav!

I completely forgot about the compression algorithms. I was unable to find any configurations for VINO, the remote desktop application that comes with fedora core 3, that allows me to change the compression algorithms, display number, resolution, etc..
Does anyone know how?

Also, I read the following LQ Tutorial and decided to use ssh. That article discusses sshv2, is that the same as ssh -2 ? When I tunelled vnc via ssh with the -C option, the performance was better.

Thanks!
