fedora 15 why is ethx named p2p1?

The title says it all. The interface that should be named ethx is named p2p1, and the system resists all attempts to use or rename this interface device. As a result cannot seem to connect to my DSL provider. I do not understand thus change.

Looking at the dmesg outpurt there are entries saying there were name changes from eth0 to p2p1 and from eth1 to eth0. I do not know why.

New naming convention that is suppose to make it easier to figure out what Ethernet port is what.
