Fedora 11 - no NIC, no wifi... Realtek 8172/8192se - I can't install the driver
If i've posted this in the wrong forum, i apologize...
I recently installed Fedora 11 on my new laptop (with much effort to find a distro that works on it). Now that it's up and running i can't connect to the internet, (n)either wired or wireless(ly?) (is that even a word?)... Google yielded a few results (but mostly for older versions of Fedora [e.g. 6]). I found what i thought was going to be the answer here, I followed it as close as i could but still no dice... Yes, i downloaded the latest driver from Realtek... okay, here's the specs... Toshiba Satellite L505D-GS6000 AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M500 2.20 GHz 4.00 GB RAM uname -r: Code:
2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i586 lspci -v: <--(just the NIC & wifi info) Code:
02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 8172 (rev 10) Anyone feel patient enough to walk me through compiling the driver and installing it? (in plain english please... i'm still relatively new to the wonderful world of linux). if anyone needs any more system info just let me know... |
Check out the driver in the following site and install it manually
Hi der,
Please download the driver from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&PFid=7&Conn=4 You will get a bunzipped tar file, extract it and read the README in it. U can install the required driver and enable the ethernet controller. regards, Wesley |
On the link he posted above i can't seem to find any linux drivers for my hardware... but, it could be me... anyone know?

you might want to stop doing anything on fedora 11 RIGHT NOW
fedora 11 is about to hit it's END OF LIFE in about 60 days so in about 2 months there will NEVER be any updates to it use fedora 13 it is in beta testing |
okay, thanks... i'm DLing Fedora 13 right now (i hope it does me better than Fedora 12 did), but that still doesn't help me now. Plus as i learn how to troubleshoot this problem i'll have this knowledge for future reference...

try this,
Goto Realtek download page http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ in the search box type RT8101E and click go, the first under Downloads will give u the link for the driver for RT8101E.. Under linux, u can download from any of the 3 sites, I dont think urs is RT8191S and urs is 8101E |
