Question Fastest way to delete all emails remotely?

Hi, All.

I'm using fetchmail to get all my emails from multiple POP3 servers to my laptop. Because I have multiple machines, I keep all messages on the server so that I can retrieve them from multiple places. As space is limited, I need to delete all emails from the mail servers periodically.

Does anyone know a way to remove all emails from a server quickly?

Thanks.

you so need to play with mozilla mail. As i do exactly what you do and my mail server never has more then 50 messages on it.

basically mozilla has 2 nice features. the first is, it can delete the messages from the mail server if you move it out from inbox, eg all junk and crap.

and the second is you can specify to delete all messages older then x amount of days.

so this means my mail server only contains recent messages which are in my inbox, and both my laptop and desktop can still access it.

Works really well i am very happy with mozilla these days, even all my windows friends are converting to mozilla.

Thanks a lot. But I'm using Mutt and do not want to use multiple client softwares. Also, I have to download all the messages with mozilla before it deletes them. Since you're using mozilla as your main mail reader, it's fine for you. But I just want to remove the messages, say once a month, so this solution seems a little awkward for me.

You could try konqueror. I've done it with imap but not pop3

try
pop3://<mail.isp.url>/<username>

I had to delete a directory I had created before Evolution would work.

Talking

SSH as root, cd / and do an rm -rf and this will erase everything, including all e-mail.
PS: scratch that, it's bad idea. and please don't try this at home.
