Fails to initialize network card sometimes
 
I am having problems with my Realtek card. When booting it sometimes fails to initialize properly. When this happen I can not even initialize it manually. I have to restart the computer and it most always initializes fine then. Its not a hardware issue I think because it always works fine in my Windows partition.

Red hat 9 2.4.20 kernel
Realtek pci card on a TYAN 2466N-4M board

I am thinking its something simple hopefully. Here's the log when it fails to initialize:

I've seen threads where people's fails to boot on startup then they can manually boot but nothing like this. By the way eth0 was an onboard lan which I could never get working properly under linux or windows. I'll work on that later though.

I've been trying to reproduce the error with no luck, everything looks good i thought.

Now I confused. Are you able to ping the router. It looks like eth1 is configured correctly and not showing any errors. Eth0 looks good to, but does not have a IP assigned to it.
Are you still have the trouble that you initial reported?
Sorry I reread you original post. Forget about what I asked above. I understand it does not always happen. Net time it happens try restarting the network and see if you still have trouble?
Get the output from
lsmod;
ifconfig -a;
lspvi -v;
dmesg;
/etc/init.d/network restart;
The test the network if it works get the output of
lsmod;
ifconfig -a;

Right now it works good. The trouble is sometimes on bootup, it fails to initialize eth1. When it does fail to intilaize it I can not initialize it manually either. Most threads I have seen point to troubles in the srcipt that initalize eth1 but users are able to usally do it manually or change the scripts. I was curious as to why when Eth1 will not initialize at bootup I can not intialize it manually either. I have to restart the computer and everything usally initializes fine.

Eth0 is not being used at this moment.

How are you trying to manually starting the network?

Before restarting check to see if the module was loaded and its used count is not 0.
lsmod | grep 8139;
Try
rmmod 8139too;
/etc/init.d/network restart;

What is the output of /etc/sysconfig-scripts/ifcfg-eth0;

thanks g-rod, i'l;l end this thread right now until I can reproduce this error again, now its off to work on getting my sound card working right with linux.
