Extreme Newbie Question
Hi all,
I am really new to linux, so please bear with me. :-)
So here's the problem. This computer doesn't have a modem, but the computer is on a network that is connected to the internet. This computer has RedHat Linux 7.0 and the other has Windows 2000 Professional. I would like to be able to connect to the internet from this computer, but so far... no luck. If you guys can help... PLEASE do!
Thanks in advance!

your connection
how are you connected?
most likely some type of ethernet device...
so, instead of configuring a modem for the internet you would configure your eth device

Do you know how to set up your 2K box as a proxy or masquerading gateway? Has that been done yet?

The Win2k system is set up for Internet Connection Sharing. I can use the internet in both Win98 and Win2k over on this system (the one for Linux). I also know that the ethernet card is working because I can ping the Win2k system. Just not sure where to find the settings in Linux for setting up the Win2k system as the proxy server. Also the DNS settings will also need to be set for the internet, but I'm not sure where those are either. Any ideas?

Redhat includes the graphical configuration tools "linuxconf" and "netconf". Run either of those as root to enter/modify your network settings.

Hi all,
Thanks for all your help! I haven't figured it out yet, but I'm hopefully on the road to success. Thanks again!
