external ip address

can someone please help me i have the following question:

i set up slackware on a small pc at home, with a ftp server that i use in my lan, all works fine local but then i tried accessing it from outside which didnt work
i found out that the ftp server (glftpd) forwards the server's internal ip (192.168.0.*) not the external ip, when doing the passive mode command.

I think it has something to do with my network setup, as i got a adsl connection with a dynamic ip (pppoe) connected to my router (dlink di-614+) which is then connected to the server.

i got no idea if there is a solution to this, but ive been on it for some time now

any help welcome
thx all

Have you forwarded the ports from the router to the server?

I have never used that ftp server - from the documentation I have seen there is a config file called "/etc/glftpd.conf" Somewhere in this file there is an option to bind the server to listen only on a certain address. You may need to make it listen to both addresses or a "*" MAY let it bind to all addresses (like I say I don't use glftpd). I'm downloading it though

well, i know how the glftpd.conf works and how to make it listen on the ip but when i add "pasv_addr my.external.ip" and try to connect to the server i get "425 Can't open passive connection: Cannot assign requested address. "
