Explanations for Networking and users permissions in Red Hat 9

Hi!

I really need some help with Red Hat 9. Right now i have some computers with rh9 logging to a windows 2000 server via dhcp. I want to try to migrate around 60 computers with w2k to rh9. The big problem is that i dont have the slightly idea of users group and policies with linux. i can do everything i need in the w2k active directory. I want to get all the info i can about users policies for linux before migrating. Someone told me that i needed a Nis server or something like that... but i don't know what that is.

Please help anyway you can.

Well, the question is a bit too large for this forum.
Here you can find many useful resouces: http://www.linuxsecurity.com/docs/
I have a fairly small network, still I found the HOWTO interesting.
