I'm on a university network running Mandrake 9.1 and DHCP is giving me problems. I've tried DrakConnect, that didn't work. I've made some stabs at messing around with configuration files, but none of those seem to have an effect.
Here's ifconfig in it's latest state:
Code:

~~~~etc~~~~
Forgive me for not posting it all, but I have to type it since I have no network connection with that machine. Luckily, I have another computer right next to it that is connected to the network.
Here's /etc/sysconfig/network:
Code:
HOSTNAME=raphaelite.uvm.edu
NETWORKING=yes
And here's /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:
Code:
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ONBOOT=yes
MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=yes
NEEDHOSTNAME=no
I've been poking around for the last few hours looking for an answer to this, and I've tried a bunch of things. I set my ip to a static nonroutable (192.168.10.10) and pinged myself (successfully), so I know it's working. I've had momentary success by declaring my own static ip (it works for five minutes or less), although doing so is directly against UVM network policy, so I'm not too hot on doing that for the long term. UVM doesn't route ping or tracert packets, so I'm SOL as far as that's concerned.
What's really infuriating is that I was running Slackware before break and had almost no problem getting on the network (it wouldn't let me back on the network when I got back from winter break, which spurred the change in distro which I had been planning for a few months).
Thanks, all. And I'm really sorry if this is a stupid question. I have little experience as a Linux admin.
