Everytime I log on to FC3, I have to reset SMB and Network service to get online
 

Everytime I log on to FC3, I have to reset the SMB service and Network service to get online. Otherwise, my connection will not work. When I look at the services, SMB always says that it is running but that there is a bad PID.

My machine gets its Internet from a shared connection on my Windows machine (I ran out of router ports).

smb and even nmb services should have no bearing on being able to route packets throught your gateway. what is the "network" service your are referring to that restarting in conjunction with samba seems to help.

In the FC3 GUI, there is a section called 'Services' under the 'Network Settings.' When I log in, my connection is not running. I look at all of the listed services, and the SMB one says something about a dead PID file, so I reset it. There is another service called "Network," and my connections comes back up when I reset SMB, then Network.

the next time this accurs after a reboot, prior to restarting your service open a terminal and post the results of by the way how do you like your browser? i just started using it last week and am very happy with its uncluttered simplicity.

It's working now. However, for some reason, ifconfig will not work, even when I am logged in as root.

Firefox is a nice browser. I like it better than Konqueror. Also, if you install firefox, I would definitely recommend installing a google bar rather than using the included one.
