Ethernet problems while installing linux on Sony VAIO

Hi everybody,

I'm having some trouble when installing Scientific Linux 6.0 on Sony VAIO VPCEB4Z1E. The system does not seem to configure the network card correctly. When testing it on Windows, everything seems to be fine. I've heard of similar incompatibility problems with Sony VAIO but not for this specific model. Does anybody have experience with it or knows how I should proceed in order to solve this matter?

Many thanks in advance!

P.S.: I also have similar problems with the sound card configuration, but that is not so urgent right now.

Can you boot into your SL6 install? From what I gathered using the Google, your Ethernet card should be a Marvell Yukon. There's probably an RPM for the kernel module (sk98lin) in a repo or you can download a kernel patch / driver from Marvell support. You can also check if the module's already loaded by typing 'lsmod' or 'cat /proc/modules' at the command line. Good luck!

'find /lib/modules/ -name *98* : No sk98lin in SL 6.

Example package : kmod-sk98lin-*

Many thanks to both of you! Problem's solved, I downloaded http://pkgs.org/download/centos-6-rh...86_64.rpm.html and everything worked out fine.

Thanks again for the hint,
D.
