But my card isn't supported! However, it seems that a guru here has it at work, so I know it has to be possible, at least.
# /sbin/cardctl ident
Socket 0:
no product info available
Socket 1:
product info: "D-Link", "DFE-690TXD", "PC Card"
manfid: 0x0149, 0x0000
function: 6 (network)
This is close, I know it! It seems to know the card, but where do I go from here? I haven't a clue on what to do now, and I can't seem to find any more information anywhere on the net!
I went to System Settings - Network and added a different D-Link PCMCIA card, and made sure RedHat was booting with PCMCIA (I went to System Settings - Services). After a reboot, it seems to detect the 690-TXD under Network at /dev/eth0 with status 'ok'
I read to use to 8139too.c driver, but I searched in /usr/src/linux/drivers/net for this, and it didn't seem to show up.
Here is my (relevant) lspci output:
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc DFE-690TXD CardBus PC Card (rev 10)
I am now going to press on and try and get my ethernet (hopefully) working! Maybe this will help all those working with the D-Link DFE-690TXD, there is very little on it on LQ (or what I can find anywhere else).
I inserted the damned card during the re-installation, this time RH7.2 configure it quite smoothly. And I tried pppoe with my ADSL connection. All worked just fine.
I dont know how that could be, even now. But that start to make me feel Linux IS somewhere miracle could happen!
Yes I do have my DFE-690TXD working now. It's been a little while, I don't remember exactly how I finished it off. After the post I made above, I believe I got the success tone at startup and used redhat-network-config. There I selected a similiar adapter (DFE-650) and for some unknown reason my 690 card connected OK. It must use the same drivers.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, next time I'll remember to write it down somewhere before I forget!
Glad you card is working. Mine is up and running--system shows it up and running (green lights flickering and all), but I still can't get an internet connection. Ths one has me stumped
I have a laptop that I'm playing around with. I have Redhat 7 (please no jokes) installed. I want to buy a very inexpensive network card, since This machine is strictly for "learning". I just saw a d-link card "DFE 690TXD" with rebate for $20. I think it's a pretty good buy. I see some problems here installing this one.
Does anyone have a "sure" way to get this installed so I know it will work before I buy it.
Well, I gave my laptop to a friend to see if she could get it (ethernet via d-link) working. If she does, I will post what needed to happen. As far as I can tell, the card works, just something is not right about my configuration.
