Ethernet PCMCIA: DFE-690TXD

Hi,

I own a D-Link DFE-690TXD 32-bit 10/100Mbps Card for my laptop. I can't seem to get it to work with Linux (RedHat 9)! Here is where I am so far:

# /etc/init.d/pcmcia status
cardmgr (pid 1462) is running...

PCMCIA seems to be running fine.

# cat /etc/pcmcia/config | grep "D-Link DFE"
card "D-Link DFE-650 Ethernet"
card "D-Link DFE-650 Fast Ethernet"
card "D-Link DFE-670-TXD Fast Ethernet"

But my card isn't supported! However, it seems that a guru here has it at work, so I know it has to be possible, at least.

# /sbin/cardctl ident
Socket 0:
no product info available
Socket 1:
product info: "D-Link", "DFE-690TXD", "PC Card"
manfid: 0x0149, 0x0000
function: 6 (network)

This is close, I know it! It seems to know the card, but where do I go from here? I haven't a clue on what to do now, and I can't seem to find any more information anywhere on the net!

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Unhappy exactly the same problem

I know it is not good to take a free ride, but I am just so upset with the exact same question that I can not help it.

I use Linux RedHat 7.2 and my Laneed LD-CDL/TX Fast EtherNet just can not work.

# cat /etc/pcmcia/config | grep "Laneed"
shows according information that it IS supported.

# /sbin/cardctl ident
also demonstrates correct working information

What can I do further to activate it?

Thank you too!

Post follow up

I figured (since others were having similiar issues), I'll write down what I've gotten so far (from the last post),

I read over the PCMCIA HOW-TO (it wasn't that useful at all thus far), except this:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/PCMCIA-HOWTO-4.html

I went to System Settings - Network and added a different D-Link PCMCIA card, and made sure RedHat was booting with PCMCIA (I went to System Settings - Services). After a reboot, it seems to detect the 690-TXD under Network at /dev/eth0 with status 'ok'

I read to use to 8139too.c driver, but I searched in /usr/src/linux/drivers/net for this, and it didn't seem to show up.

Here is my (relevant) lspci output:
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc DFE-690TXD CardBus PC Card (rev 10)

I am now going to press on and try and get my ethernet (hopefully) working! Maybe this will help all those working with the D-Link DFE-690TXD, there is very little on it on LQ (or what I can find anywhere else).

For those on Dell Laptops and working with these cards: http://users.rcn.com/jdreyer/i4150/

Talking i re-install the system

It's a silly way. But that worked out.

I inserted the damned card during the re-installation, this time RH7.2 configure it quite smoothly. And I tried pppoe with my ADSL connection. All worked just fine.

I dont know how that could be, even now. But that start to make me feel Linux IS somewhere miracle could happen!

Thanks for attention and good luck friend.

Hi,

Yes I do have my DFE-690TXD working now. It's been a little while, I don't remember exactly how I finished it off. After the post I made above, I believe I got the success tone at startup and used redhat-network-config. There I selected a similiar adapter (DFE-650) and for some unknown reason my 690 card connected OK. It must use the same drivers.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, next time I'll remember to write it down somewhere before I forget!

Help,

I have a laptop that I'm playing around with. I have Redhat 7 (please no jokes) installed. I want to buy a very inexpensive network card, since This machine is strictly for "learning". I just saw a d-link card "DFE 690TXD" with rebate for $20. I think it's a pretty good buy. I see some problems here installing this one.

Does anyone have a "sure" way to get this installed so I know it will work before I buy it.

Thanks.

Well, I gave my laptop to a friend to see if she could get it (ethernet via d-link) working. If she does, I will post what needed to happen. As far as I can tell, the card works, just something is not right about my configuration.
