Ethernet in Promiscous and Non -Promiscous Modet


Hi,

Sorry if the question has been answered before
I want to know what happens when Ethernet is configured in Promiscous and Non -Promiscous Mode . Which are the data that are to the ethenet available in these two modes

Non -Promiscous Mode is the normal operating contition of the network card.
in this mode, the network card will ignore all packets that are not addressed to it.

in Promiscous Mode the network card will recieve all data that it ocmes in contact with, even if its not addressed to it. this is usefull for packet sniffing, and securetty programs like SNORT with look for suspiciouse netowork actiivty.
