hi pete,

I couldn't get to [root@localhost]

from [root@localhost root], I typed "su -" , and it didnt prompt for password.

also I tried all your suggestions and some of the output said "module e1000 already exists."

Is this ok? If this is ok, I still couldnt find the device name under the list of network adapters when I use internet configuration wizard.

Thanks.

Try

/sbin/lsmod

See if the module is actually loaded, should look like this

soundcore 7044 4 (autoclean) [snd]
parport_pc 19204 1 (autoclean)
lp 9188 0 (autoclean)
parport 39072 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp]
autofs 13684 0 (autoclean) (unused)
e1000 74400 1
ipt_REJECT 3928 2 (autoclean)
iptable_filter 2412 1 (autoclean)
ip_tables 15864 2 [ipt_REJECT iptable_filter]
ohci1394 20904 0 (unused)
ieee1394 52044 0 [ohci1394

I have underlined e1000

If it's there then

/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up

Then

/sbin/ifconfig

You should get a listing for eth0 ond lo

Pete
