Ethernet Card

Ok I'm probably missing something very very obvious but anyway my eth0 refuses to activate. I have 2 computers and on one it activates fine where as the other wont. I think the main problem is it thinks I'm using the 3Com 3c501 but I'm actually using the Etherfast 10/100 LAN Card. Anyone have any ideas to why it wont activate or cant figure out what card I'm using? Drivers? I dunno...

Is that a Linksys 10/100?

If it is you can try adding to modules.conf

alias eth0 tulip

or for crude but effective way - shutdown, remove the card, reboot, when the hardware detection "there are changes" thing comes up pick to delete it, once booted shutdown again, put in the card and hopefully it'll pick up the proper card

in the /etc/hwconf file remove the entry pertaining to ur lan card
save the file
type kudzu
now configure ur card by selecting a suitable driver

no need to remove the card to delete the configuration
kudzu checks for the device by looking at its entry in /etc/hwconf file
