I have bought an ethernet adsl aztech 305E modem and I use RH linux 8.
I have to NICs installed on my pc. Both are realtek. Eth0 is connected to the other pc and serves as a LAN. It is manually configured. Eth1 is connected to the modem and is used for internet connections. For Eth1, I set it to auto obtain IP add with dialup and to auto obtain DNS info from provider.After that, I setup an adsl connection (ppp0)

I typed the ip address 'http://10.0.0.2/' into the mozilla browser but the msg ' connection refused when attempting to connect to 10.0.0.2' appeared. Then i typed 'http://startmodem/' and 'http://login/' but the message 'www.startmodem.com could not be found' appeared.

Then I tried the command line method. I used adsl-setup and then adsl-start or /sbin/ifup ppp0. But after a while,the message ' /sbin/adsl-start: line 217: 2433 Terminated $conncect "$@" 7/dev/null 2791 ' appeared.

Do you know what the problem is? Is it an improperly configured NIC or ppp0? This ethernet modem also does not work in windows.

RP-PPPOE requires the eth# interface connected to the DSL modem to be down before connecting. try ifdown eth1 before adsl-start or you can use ifconfig eth1 down.

This may not be the problem but it's a start.
