Exclamation eth1 interface does not work if eth0 is down

Hello All,

I have following setup on my powerpc board.
Linux kernel version - 2.6.30.2
The board has two 1G capable ethernet cards eth0 eth1 respectively.

(Setup is as follows)
- I have connected these ethernet cards directly with initiators 1G port, i.e. One to one cabling.
- The initiator has windows 2008 server running on it.

eth0 (192.168.0.1) ------- LAC 3(192.168.0.4)

eth1 (192.168.0.2) ------- LAC 4(192.168.0.3)

Now the problem is if eth0 is up then i can ping both the ip's (x.x.x.3/4)
But if i unplug the eth0 cable then i can not ping the x.x.x.3 ip address
which is connected with eth1 interface.
And at this moment eth1 interface is up.

Initiator settings
LAC3/4 - IP: 192.168.0.3/4 Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0 No gateway provided.

Board Setting
eth0/1 - IP: 192.168.0.1/2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 No gateway provided.

Thanking you in anticipation.
- Harshal Shete.

looks like a routing issue to me.
/4 is a huge subnet. so everything goes through eth0.
and 192.168.0.3 is not reachable because it's on eth1.

print your routing table and it should be clear.

caveat, I'm far from being a network guru

this would work:
eth0 (192.168.0.1) ------- LAC 3(192.168.0.4)

eth1 (192.168.1.2) ------- LAC 4(192.168.1.3)

with /24 netmasks (255.255.255.0)
