eth0 not coming up after boot

Hey All,

I have compiled a new kernel 2.6.3 and I have compiled the driver for my network card in it (a Xircom CB Driver). This is running on a laptop

when linux boots I see a link light come on the switch, but it does not connect as such to the network until I log in and type in ifup eth0.

It works fine when I load the older kernel 2.4 (That came with the distribution)

How do I get this to work as soon as it boots.

Thanks in Advance,

Jason

Have you compiled it as a module? If so is it being loaded:
lsmod

I assume you have updated module-init-tools?

I compiled the driver directly into the kernel....

I think I did get it figured out...

I added the line 'ifup eth0' to the end of the rc.local script. Only then did it work. But I want to know why it did not work in the first place and if there is another solution to this. Surely this is not the right way of doing it.

try to configure your ethernet with "netconfig" then check after reboot, don't forget to remove the entry from rc.local.

I will have a look at that. but what I think may be the problem (if it is one - from looking at the logs) is that the pcmcia is starting after it tries to bring up eth0. how do I swap them around ?
