eth0 ifup

Odd problem on RH WS 3.0. I assign an IP static to eth0.

Use ifup eth0. Can't get a connection to the network. Reboot. Connection.

Now that I have a connection, I use ifdown eth0 and it brings the connection down. I use ifup eth0 the IP address, mask and route all there; no connection. Reboot. Connection. Anybody ever see this before?

Dell 8600 w/ broadcom 440

Thanks,

Do you use dhcp? In that case try to run or rerun dhcpcd. I think the problem is that you have assigned a statically ip on a dhcp-network.

There is no DHCP and if my client does not send out a dhcp client broadcast then there should be no conflict. I would be interested in hearing how a statically assigned IP may not work in a dhcp environment. Got any references to such a thing?
