/etc/hosts My unqualified host name?
Hi,
Can someone help me out with this please... the box I am working on has static ip 192.168.3.15, hostname = DenisInsure
The /etc/hosts file looks like this:
::1 localhost:localdomain localhost
192.168.3.15 DenisInsure DenisInsure
120.0.0.1 localhost localhost
But when starting sendmail it takes 2 or 3 minutes, the log has the following error:
My unqualified host name (DenisInsure) unknown; sleeping for retry
unable to qualify my own domain name (DenisInsure) -- using short name...
It does this 3 times, and finally gives up.
I figured out that if I removed this line from /etc/hosts
192.168.3.15 DenisInsure DenisInsure
Sendmail started quick and everything worked fine... or so i thought.
The next day I had to telnet into the box (... I know telnet isn't good, but I am new here and they dont listen to me ...) anyways, I couldnt telnet in...
[root@damian ~]# telnet 192.168.3.15
Trying 192.168.3.15...
Connected to insurance (192.168.3.15).
Escape character is '^]'.
getaddrinfo: localhost: Success
Connection closed by foreign host.
[root@damian ~]#
When I put that line back into /etc/hosts telnet works fine... but then obviously sendmail doesn't... anyone know whats going on?
