Errors using iwconfig HELP!!

here's my situation. I'm trying to setup my Linksys Wireless WPC11 v1.0 nic to use wireless. I've already got the nic to run in montor mode using the wlan-ng drivers. I'm now curious how I can get it to work in normal mode using iwconfig. The NIC detects fine and I'm able to see it when I type iwconfig as wlan0. When I goto setup options on it using the command: iwconfig wlan0 essid CPB the thing gives me this error:

Error for wireless request "set ESSID" (8B1A) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Functio not implemented.

What can I do to fix this error and get my wireless nic to work normally? I'm using SuSe 8.2

does this card come with a GUI tool ?

if iwconfig reports that it can't do it for that card, then maybe it can't. I know with the Minitar wireless cards, they only have a GUI tool to configure them with and they don't understand any of the stuff that iwconfig tries to do.
