error message

:( Hi all:p

When ever I go on the net after awhile I start to get the message that Linux cannot find a prot on the machine.
eg: cannot connect to localdomain at localhost.localdomain or something like that I hope someone can help as it just keeps on repeating it self over and over. It des not matter wether I am in X or commandline. It doesn,t seem to matter wether I reboot or not it just keeps comming back. I even went so far as to reinstall but still come up with the same problem.

What distro are you using, and how are you connecting to the Net (dial-up,cable, DSL)?

A few (random) thoughts:

Check the log files in /var/log (and its subdirectories) to see if anything more descriptive concerning the error is getting written there.

Are you running any other network-oriented services, such as a web server, Samba, SWAT, etc.)?

Have you altered your hostname in any way before this begins to happen?

Post the exact error, and perhaps the contents of your /etc/hosts file.
