Error dhcpstar: IOCTL SIOCGIFWADDR: NO SUCH DEVICE

it seems that i dont have dhcpcd configured correctly. i had internet connection during installatin, so thats not the problem. i also have connection when i boot into windows. i emerged dhcpcd client, so i cant really figured out whats the problem is. I think it could my nameservers, but i thought they were set up automatically by the router? anyhow here is what i've tried so far

/etc/init.d/net.etho start
starting eth0
bringint up eth0
configuration not set for eth0, assuming dhcpcd
eth0 does not exist

ls -l /sbin/dhcpcd
-rwxr -xr-x 1 root root 49376 7/30 21:11 /sbin/dhcpcd

dhcpcd eth0
Error dhcpstar: IOCTL SIOCGIFWADDR: NO SUCH DEVICE

please note that im using gentoo on an amd64 box. here is more info
