Sendmail, e-mail receiving configuration.
Hey guys,
I've been trying to send e-mail messages between my linux box using sendmail and the windows box using exchange 2000.
But I can't receive e-mail messages from the linux box.
The problem is I didn't set up the linux box so I don't know its configuration.
So I thought there should be a connector in the linux box, communicating with windows.I have to set up exact same conf. to the windows so I can send and receive..
What do you guys think that conf. could be, allowing receiving e-mails from windows. ??
Thanks in advance.
Joe.

sendmail
Hi ,
It would help if you could provide a bit more clearer picture .
Maybe this will help you :
For fetching mails :
You need a program such as "Fetchmail" or something ( This is if you are a home user and dont have a valid IP address).
Incase you have a valid IP address then POP3 or IMAP daemon need to be running for your machine to be aable to receive mails from other mail servers.
For sending Mails :
You need to configure sendmail with properties such as "Relay Server", port , who are allowed to relay, and so on .
If you need any more help please mail me at vipulmb@rediffmail.com.
Hope this helps you.
With Regards,
Vipul.

Thanks for the reply and sorry If I wasn't clear enough.
Here is the deal.
I set up an exchange 2000 server in our company (not home)
which has static IP address.
I can send e-mail messages within exchange 2000 servers.
let's say ex1@domain.com and ex2@domain.com are accounts from exchange server.
these 2 accounts can send/receive mails from eachother.
Whenever I try to send email from our Linux server which uses Sendmail to our exchange server, Ex server simply doesn't receive it. Mail gets lost in the cyber world.
Then I tried to send an email from my hotmail account to the ex2k server. The mail again lost in the cyber world.
That accomplished that Hotmail is also using linux server/Sendmail.
So I figured there should be something I should configure. in the ex2k server in order to retrieve mails from *nix based servers.
Thank you..

It sounds like you have the Exchange server setup as intranet mail, which would allow computers logged into the server to send emails back and forth. There's probably some sort of configuration on that server that you could mess with that would allow you to receive mail from outside addresses also. I could be wrong (and I probably am), but that's just what it sounds like to me.

Hotmail and SENDMAIL !!!!!!!
Ok first thing is just because hotmail is unable to send mail doesnt mean that it is using linux!!!
It simply means that something is wrong with exchange configuration .... as i said change the various parameter .... specifiacally the parameter such as relay, black list , etc. this is because i suspect that exchange is configured for intranet mails only !!!!
Check the IMS connector on ur exchange server. It is responsible for routing mails to external world.
I guess you are familiar with the concpet of MT, IS, DS, MTA ?
Maybe something is wrong in the flow in between them.
With Regards ,
Vipul .

Well, the problem is there is no IMS connector under Exchange 2000 Server.
Do you know what I should configure then??
Thanks..

Install it
Hi ,
I have never worked with exchange or other MS products.
But a friend told me that u need the connector.
you need to install it. The option is there under "tools" or maybe some other MENU.
Hope this solves it.
Regards ,
Xanthium.
