dyndns.org and subdomains

Ok... this probably isn't the place for this, but I have to ask someone.

I have just purchased a domain name and Custom DNS from dyndns.org. My host has resolved and I am now able to surf to my webserver via both http://mydomain.com and http://www.mydomain.com.

What Im trying to do is setup a subdomain http://mail.mydomain.com to point to my squirelmail install. I have a virtual host configured in apache and typing http://mail.myhostname locally resolves to this site (squirelmail).

Now, I have followed this guide on the dyndns.org site for setting up a subdomain, but its just not working.

When I try to go to http://mail.mydomain.com I get a popup appear (firefox) saying that http://mail.myhost.com cannot be found.

Has anyone else used the dyndns.org service and had subdomains working? Does this just take time to resolve the subdomain? Am I following the right instructions? Any tips?

I have contacted dyndns support and they said they should get back to me within 24hrs, just thought Id'e run it past this forum while I wait.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You're confused. What you are trying to do is not a sub-domain, it's a hostname. The guide you linked to is for delegating sub-domains, which is not what you want. Just setup an additional hostname (A record) and point it to your same IP address from the dyndns page.

Ok.... thankyou very much. Yes, I am confused, first time trying this sort of thing.

I have now setup an A record for mail.mydomain.co and *.mydomain.com, any ideas how long these might take to resolve? They dont seem to be working as yet. (10 mins)
