ds: no socket drivers loaded
Hi all

I'm using Debian on a notebook with pcmcia-netcard.
With 2.4.18 everthing is ok (net is working just fine).
I upgraded (dselect) to 2.4.21-4-686 and now I got the
error: "ds: no socket drivers loaded" and no net connection.

If I do:
... modprobe pcmcia_core
... modprobe tulip (netcard driver: Netgear FA511)
... ifup eth0
I get net connection every time.

I have search basic all of LinuxQuestions and found a lot of questions about this, but no solution.
Is there an error within 2.4.21 ???

I like to get this socket -"driver" loaded at boot, please.
Is there somebody out there, who got the solution, please and thanks ?

Did you resolve this?
were you able to get this resolved? If I do "dmesg", I see the same errors. I am also seeing that the USB FS is not getting mounted. I have an USB mouse...I dont know if the latter is getting caused due to the first error. Kindly let me know how you got this fixed.

If you run Debian, just stick the names of the modules you want loaded at boot in /etc/modules.

You probably don't want the USB filesystem mounted for your mouse though. ;)
You do however want to load usbcore (if USB support is in a module), hid, mousedev, and the USB host driver your computer uses (like usb-uhci) for USB mouse support.

more info pls...
I have RHL 2.4.20-8 which when booted comes up fine. and prints the following message.

"NET4: Unix domain sockets 1.0/SMP for Linux NET4.0."

well, I custom compiled linux 2.4.22 for low latency support/pre emptible kernel patch. When I boot 2.4.22, it comes up printing "ds: no socket drivers loaded" and then the USB file system doesnt get loaded. Infact, I just noticed that a message "SMP motherboard not detected" is getting printed. Can you please throw some light from the attached dmesg log.
