DOS networking.

This is a long shot, but has anyone ever networked a DOS machine with a Linux machine? I can log on to an NT box no problem, but I'd love to be able to log on to a Linux machine instead.

It's actually Windoze 95 not running the GUI, btw and I log on with:

net use g: \\NTmachine\directory

and

net use lpt2: \\NTmachine\LJ5000

Which sets me up a share on the NT machine and I can print by copying files to LPT2: - it works a treat.

The main problem is that my NT machine was actually put together by Noah and is getting quite rusty from the water damage suffered in the great flood! I only ever power it up to act as a print server for my DOS machine these days. (The DOS machine is used for CAD in case you're wondering, Windoze CAD systems are *awful*!)

If I run

net view

from the DOS machine. btw it only sees the NT box and *no* other machine on the network.

Are the other names under 8 characters?

Have you tried using the IP rather than the name?

You will "probably" need to use "security = share" not "security = user" in smb.conf

Yep.

Just tried that and it gives the same message along the lines of "Remote computer cannot be found."

It's something to do with it (not) being an NT box I think. I know you can set up Samba to be an NT server clone, so maybe that's what I'll have to do.
