Don't know how to configure a home network on FC5
 

Hi everyone!

I have two computers at home that I want to link together so I can transfer files between them. Both machines are running with Fedora Core 5 and they are both connected to my adsl modem router for internet access.

I've searched for information that would tell me how to proceed but what I've found have been more confusing than helpful and every time I tried something I failed.

Could someone please tell me what I must do or point me to some good tutorals? Any help will be very appreciated.

You could use either NFS or Samba

Since you're not running any windows boxes, I would look at NFS.

A google search should turn up some good tutorials.

I didn't know that NFS was the one I had to use. Found some guides but I had a hell of a hard time to set it up. But doesn't matter now cause I have a connection and it's working!

The tricky part is getting it to always use the same channel ( I cannot remember what it is called). Until I got that tied down, every time I would reboot it would error out.

I don't know if your problem is the same as the one I had lazlow.

My prolem was that when I rebooted, I couldn't mount the server's directory that I had set to share. In my case, the problem was with the port used by mountd (port 4002) that portmap doesn't seem to like.

One more question please.

Can I use NFS for sharing a printer or do I have to do that in a different way?

I THINK cups will handle that.
