Does the command "telnet" works when remote and local are different operating system?

Hi guys,
Is it possible to log into a remote windows computer from my local linux computer and vice-versa using the "telnet" command?
Thankx

yes.

in windows you would need to enable the telnet service and un-block the port on the firewall.

On the Linux box you would need to install telnet (i dont believe it is installed by default)

BTW, why wouldnt you use something more secure than telnet? usernames and passwords are all sent in clear text using telnet...
