Does telnet have a timeout???

Well, I've been using telnet to get into a Linux box on my LAN and have been getting disconnected after approximately 1 minute. Is there a timeout setting somewhere? It doesn't appear in the etc/xinetd.d/telnet file and I'm not sure where else to look. Maybe somewhere under user settings??

Does anyone have any ideas???

PS - I'm using telnet instead of SSH because this machine doesn't have access to the internet.

Yes And No

Hi MjB ,

Yes u can timeouts ( u mean idle time disconnections ?) or time it will wait for a user to enter a login name ?

for idle time logout the feture depends on the shell the user is provided with ....... if its a BASH shell then u need to set the TMOUT environment variable.

for login timeouts i think the feature is with the terminal login s/w ur using ex; mingetty or getty etc.

regards,
Xanthium.
