Question dodgy internet connection

hi i have just installed fc4 on a dual boot laptop.
but im having some really strange internet problems .

first the laptop is connected to a dsl router/hub that i have several PC's, linux and windows connected to, and they all connect to the internet fine (including the laptop when running winxp).

problem is my web browser at first would only display "google.co.uk",
then it stopped displaying google and would only display the other sites that it
previously wouldn't. (ie redhat.com(secure) bbc.com ,linuxquestions.org) but only for a while, then nothing again.

i was using "firefox" so tried "lynx" but the same problem.

i have full access to my other networked pc's , i also can ping all net pc's and
the websites that i can't browse???? AND i get the IP address's returned in ping and nslookup, so no DNS problems.

so to me this says that something is going on a the OS level ??

can you help.?

thanks very much .....rick

Sounds to me like a problem with your DSL router. If the DSL modem is integrated with the router then it will be hard to troublshoot this one by swapping out the router because you'll be getting rid of the modem too. I would try borrowing a regular DSL modem and then just connect that directly up to one of your PCs to see if you still get weird results. You could also buy one and then return it if the solution obtained is satisfactory. The last option is to swap the DSL router for a new one if it is a piece of equipment furnished by your ISP. The problem is that the router isn't routing packets the right way all the time, or those packets are getting blocked by a firewall on the router. Usually packets make it outside of the network fine, but it's just getting the reply packets back from external servers that fails.
