DNS setup on slackware


Im trying to get my DNS to start. I no its installed but just cant seem to get it to start. Any suggestions?

you mean bind? that's the "named" daemon, so assuming you have all your zones set up and your /etc/named.conf configured, you should be able to run just "named" or "/etc/rc.d/named start" for slackware i believe, on redhat "/etc/init.d/named start"

the startup script for bind in slackware is in /etc/rc.d/rc.M

uncomment the lines for the option you will use to start it. from then on it will start at boot. to start it right away, use the same command you uncommented (in the rc.M script) at the shell prompt; if you run as root the just type in /usr/sbin/named, and if you run as the daemon user it would be '/usr/sbin/named -u'
