DNS resolution suddenly became slow.. please help

Hi,

I'm using Fedora Core 2 and everything worked fine, until a recent up2date..

DNS resolution has become really slow for me..
I checked my dhcp settings and made sure that i'm getting an IP, default gateway, and dns ips.. which i am.

so I don't know what else to try. can somebody please help..

Thanks in advance...

*bump*

I read that adding this line to your /etc/modprobe.conf helped. It doesn't for me.
Quote:
alias net-pf-10 off
My DNS resolution is still unbarably slow.

sorry i don't know why ur dns resolution is so slow..

but maybe you have the same problem i did.

the dhcp server was returning two dns entries,
the first of which did not really exist.

so apparently it was always timing out on the first one
before going to the second. so i fixed it by manually setting
my dns entries to working dns servers..

There was also recently a bug in BIND that caused very slow DNS resolution. I know there was a patch for it in OpenBSD, I don't know if it was only a problem in OpenBSD or in BIND running on all platforms. The temporary work-around was to start named with the -4 flag.
