DNS requests go to loopback??

Hi guys,

First post from me. I've got a Fedora Core 5 box setup with the /etc/resolv.conf pointing at a couple external dns servers that I know are valid. However, if I do an nslookup on whatever public website, I get a timeout. If I then do "nslookup Server" it shows that it is trying to use 127.0.0.1. If I go back to nslookup and specify one of my external DNS servers, everything works correctly. Is there some file besides resolv.conf that controls what DNS server is queried? TIA!

Is this a static IP or Dhcp setup?

Hi Brian,

It's a static setup. Thanks!

That is the correct file. Post contents of /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/host.conf just to make the structure is correct. Other than that no other ideas.

Hi Brian,

I fixed it earlier today by going into the GUI and telling the box that I wanted to specify DNS servers. The box had been configured for DHCP initially, so I guess it still expected to learn those dynamically for whatever reason. Thanks!

Glad to see it working. Could be a confusing on the files that store the Nic settings for tcpip. Oh well it is working.
